DESCRIPTION

Mostar is a city where the traveller from the North feels the first dashes of the Mediterranean air and the traveller from the South reaches the first glimpses of the continent beyond.

After crossing the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, we drive along the emerald river Neretva and make a short stop in Počitelj, a historic urban settlement, before reaching the town of Mostar.
Mostar is a city of poetry, a city of stone and sleepy, narrow winding streets. It is a city where the traveler from the North feels the first dashes of the Mediterranean air imbued with scents of citrus and sea, while the traveler from the South reaches the first glimpses of the continent beyond. The town is exceptional for its dwellings and monuments assembled harmoniously over the centuries thanks to the favorable geographical conditions and economic climate. Experience the sights such as the Old Bazaar, the Turkish House and one of the many old Mosques and, of course, the stone bridge which the town is famous for. After a guided tour of the town enjoy some free time for strolling around and browsing among the many old crafts shops.

On our way back we stop in Blagaj to visit its Tekija, a centuries old Dervish monastery, situated at the foot of a cliff, next to the source of the river Buna. Its unique and picturesque series of buildings look even better in person than in pictures.

POČITELJ
Short stop in Počitelj.

The historic urban site of Počitelj is located on the left bank of the river Neretva, on the main road to Mostar.

In the Middle Ages, Počitelj was the administrative centre and the centre of governance of Dubrava župa (county) and its westernmost point, which gave it major strategic importance. It is supposed that the fortified town and its attendant settlements were built by Bosnia's King Stjepan Tvrtko I in 1383.

The walled town of Počitelj evolved over the period from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Architecturally, the surviving stone-built parts of the town are a fortified complex, in which two stages of evolution may be observed: Mediaeval and Ottoman.
